2017 Angle Constellation

 

The installation Angle Constellation (2017) by Bernd Kommnick develops a spatial structure composed of modular angular elements whose painted MDF surfaces interrelate painting and sculpture. Distributed throughout the space, the forms do not constitute a closed volume but an open configuration that can be experienced as a relational system of directional lines and color planes. Within this constellational structure, meaning emerges less from individual components than from their spatial interdependencies. The work relates to constructivist and minimalist strategies of formal reduction, while shifting them into a site-responsive installation practice that treats the exhibition space as an active frame of reference. Perception becomes processual: only through the movement of the viewer do angles, color surfaces, and distances cohere into changing visual orders. Angle Constellation thus addresses the relationality of geometry, color, and space, as well as the instability of perspectival orientation within the context of installation

 

Die Installation Angle Constellation (2017) von Bernd Kommnick entwickelt eine räumliche Struktur aus modularen Winkelelementen, deren farbig gefasste MDF-Flächen Malerei und Skulptur miteinander verschränken. Die im Raum verteilten Formen bilden kein geschlossenes Volumen, sondern eine offene Konfiguration, die als relationales Gefüge von Linienrichtungen und Farbflächen erfahrbar wird. Durch diese fragmentierte Anordnung entsteht eine konstellative Struktur, in der sich Bedeutungen nicht aus einzelnen Elementen, sondern aus deren räumlichen Interdependenzen ergeben. Die Arbeit knüpft an konstruktivistische und minimalistische Strategien der Formreduktion an, verschiebt diese jedoch in eine installative Praxis, die den Ausstellungsraum als aktiven Bezugsrahmen einbezieht. Wahrnehmung konstituiert sich hier prozessual: Erst in der Bewegung der Betrachtenden verbinden sich Winkel, Farbflächen und Abstände zu wechselnden visuellen Ordnungen. Angle Constellation thematisiert damit die Relationalität von Geometrie, Farbe und Raum sowie die Instabilität perspektivischer Orientierung im installativen Kontext.
