Folding (2017) is a modular work consisting of two square MDF elements presented as a continuous structure measuring 120 × 240 × 5 cm. The installation was shown as part of the “27th Exhibition of the Künstlerbund M/V” at Nikolaikirche Rostock. The work is based on the principle of folding as a spatial and pictorial transformation of a surface. The two square modules appear like parts of an originally continuous plane that has been folded or bent along an imagined axis. This produces a shift between continuity and interruption of the surface. “Folding” thus examines the transformation of a two-dimensional order into a spatial structure. The work treats the surface as a potential body and understands folding as an elementary process through which image, object, and space become interconnected.
Folding (2017) ist eine modulare Arbeit aus zwei quadratischen MDF-Elementen, die als zusammenhängende Struktur von 120 × 240 × 5 cm präsentiert werden. Die Installation wurde im Rahmen der „27. Kunstausstellung des Künstlerbundes M/V“ in der Nikolaikirche Rostock gezeigt. Ausgangspunkt der Arbeit ist das Prinzip der Faltung als räumliche und bildliche Transformation einer Fläche. Die beiden quadratischen Module erscheinen wie Teile einer ursprünglich zusammenhängenden Ebene, die entlang einer gedachten Achse gefaltet oder geknickt wurde. Dadurch entsteht eine Verschiebung zwischen Kontinuität und Unterbrechung der Fläche. „Folding“ untersucht damit die Transformation einer zweidimensionalen Ordnung in eine räumliche Struktur. Die Arbeit thematisiert Fläche als potenziellen Körper und versteht Faltung als elementaren Prozess, durch den Bild, Objekt und Raum miteinander verbunden werden.
